I’ve been pulling together references to various digital preservation tools, services, specifications and related resources. What a pleasant surprise it has been to find such a wide diversity of tools to deal with various aspects of digital stewardship. My intent is to iteratively develop a list of the tools I track down.
Categorizing the tools will also be a work in progress. Many tools can be used for various functions, so the challenge is to find a useful, rational way to organize them. The first effort is with tools used primarily to work with digital file formats. I’ve added 13 specific tools using five categories:
- File format management utilities
- File format reference
- File integrity utilities
- File transfer specifications
- File transfer utilities
At the moment, these 13 entries make up the whole list; please take a look and let me know about any corrections, omissions or other comments you may have.
